about

After recording ‘Two Late’ I took a job teaching set and prop construction at a prominent London Drama School, and for a decade, split my time between working in Musical Theatre, and performing local gigs in a variety of guises.

The most notable examples of the live work arose out of the resurgence in interest in West London, of the ‘sixties Rhythm & Blues explosion, amongst the proponents of which I was an integral original. Big Steam evolved from the earlier Hampton School band The Others, who I had idolised back in the day, and now found myself contributing to, both vocally, and on guitar.

The founder lead vocalist, the inimitable Paul Stewart and I joined forces when the practical endeavour of keeping Big Steam on the road proved too much. Little Steam recorded several tracks before metamorphosing into the ‘Staffell & Stewart’ band, and acquiring the excellent rhythm section of Steve King and Paul White for the album ‘How High’, also available here on Bandcamp.
